Key Success Factor - "Mentorship"

We are very excited about the new video clips being added to this BLOG site.

Because MENTORSHIP can add such great value to the development of both business owners and those pursuing career advancement, we've added this special post, and the first of several video clips that will highlight Mentorship, a significant Key Success Factor!

In my research and observation, Mentorship, in its various forms, can significantly advance the development of individuals along their career paths - be they employees, business owners, or professionals, in either the public or private sector.

This increases their ability to contribute to those organizations, leading to a better meeting the needs of their target audiences, as well as the fulfillment of the organization's vision, mission and strategic objectives.

Be sure to review the valuable information on our Business Success Site located at:     http://businesssuccessblog.blogspot.com/

Best wishes as you further explore Mentorship!

I think a real success factor with mentorship is when one truly understands the value of a mentor and seeks out mentors with varying skills. I think many discount the value of mentors and may miss out on significant learning opportunities until more self-awareness is developed and get the value of a mentor.

Personally I have always viewed my mentorship experience as emulating the successes and avoiding the failures I see people making and sometimes the best mentor was one that illustrated exactly what I should not be doing...

I would add some results from mentors feed back (big Finnish international organization). It is very important to get mentors involved.

Here are a few reasons why:

"Possibility to share your own knowledge and experiences and to confidentially discuss work related matters with a potential future leader.

An opportunity to develop your management, leadership and communication skills.

A learning opportunity which will provide exposure to new ideas and ways of thinking.

Networking with your colleagues from different organizational functions.

Personal satisfaction in making a contribution through guiding others and the sharing of your ideas.

I remember seeing a statement on the website for the Canadian Youth Business Foundation several years ago. I don't know if it it still there or if someone from CYBF can provide an update but it left a huge impression with me. Let me try to summarize it like this:

The experience of the Prince’s Youth Business Trust in the UK shows that mentoring helps young entrepreneurs succeed in business. Before implementing a Mentor program, the success rate of young entrepreneurs supported by the organization was only 40%. Three years after introducing a Mentor program, the success rate of their business start-ups climbed to 75%!

For me, that dramatic improvement is powerful evidence for the value of having a Mentor!
